You know the saying "Taco Tuesday"? It is part of our weekly lives as a Southern California community. We are blessed with many options to choose from: the fast food version, the make it at home yourself version, the taco truck version, the happy hour version, and so on. Now I can't say "Taco Tuesday" without thinking of the BEST taco Tuesday experience my family has ever had! I am NOT exaggerating! It was a night to be remembered and to be repeated monthly.
I have heard of Descanso restaurant several times over the years. I didn't know much about this resturant and because the resturant is in Costa Mesa I didn't give it much thought. I was then given the opportunity to experience their TAQUERO Tuesday in the Plancha room which is an immersive experience as you watch your food being prepared right in front of you. The place was packed which is a good sign to me as that shows a great repeat business and people were happy all around us.
We were seated at a half square table that seats about 10 around a cooktop with an appointed chef and server. The taco Tuesday menu is simple and perfect for my family which consists of two adults and two high school teens. We were offered appetizers and drinks which were ordered and then the fun began. We each ordered three tacos which were made in front of you so you can customize what you would like in them. I learned that the meat is delivered fresh daily and all the sauces/salsas are made in house. The drink menu and specials are also out of this world. I had the sangria blanco which was very refreshing.
What I enjoyed the most was the fun, lively atmosphere that was a great pick me up after a long day. We all agreed that these were the best tacos we ever had. The fresh ingredients paired with the different salsas and fresh roasted habanero pepper gave me the flavor and heat I was craving.
Also I was so impressed with this experience that I shared it with my best friend. The next day we spent the day together and went to Descanso for lunch. The service and food was just as wonderful as the night before! It is the first time I have ever eaten at a resturant twice within 24 hours! Thank you Descanso for the great service & food. We will be back very soon!

Descanso Restaurant in Costa Mesa is celebrating National Burrito Day, Thursday, April 7, with a special offer for dine-in. The National Burrito Day deal welcomes the Burrito Ahogado to the restaurant’s popular $15 Midweek Lunch Combo for one day only.
Courtesy of Executive Chef Fonzy De Zuniga, the National Burrito Day lunch special is inspired by fresh, creative Mexican flavors made with the highest quality ingredients. Available only on April 7, the Burrito Ahogada, meaning “drowned” or “wet” burrito, joins the modern taqueria’s midweek lunch special, which includes a soup or salad, Mexican fried rice, refried pinto beans, and endless soft drink refills for $15. The burrito is made with a flour tortilla, refried pinto beans, tres quesos, Mexican fried rice, salsa frita and drenched in salsa ahogada. Choose to fill your burrito with steak, al pastor, carnitas, pollo or vegetables with the option to add shrimp for $3. While the Burrito Ahogado is only available on National Burrito Day, the Midweek Lunch Combo is available every week, Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 am. To 3 p.m. for guests to enjoy Descanso’s Central Mexican street-inspired cuisine for a great value.
